Simple Truth Unsweetened Coconut Chips
What it is
These are thin, crisp pieces of dried coconut. They are made from the white flesh of the coconut that has been shredded and then baked or toasted until dry and crunchy. The unsweetened variety means no added sugars are present, allowing the natural flavor of the coconut to come through. They are a simple ingredient, offering a distinct tropical taste and a satisfying texture. The small size makes them versatile for various culinary applications.
How people cook with it
These coconut chips are a convenient way to add flavor and texture to many dishes. They can be used as a topping or incorporated directly into recipes.
- Sprinkled on yogurt
- Mixed into granola
- Added to baked goods
- Used in savory dishes
Unsweetened coconut chips can be enjoyed straight from the bag as a snack. They are excellent for garnishing breakfast bowls, such as oatmeal or yogurt, providing a delightful crunch. In baking, they can be stirred into muffin or cookie dough for added texture and a subtle coconut flavor. For a more savory application, they can be toasted lightly and added to curries or stir-fries, offering a unique textural contrast. Their natural sweetness pairs well with both sweet and savory ingredients.
How it differs from similar foods
Unlike shredded coconut, these chips are larger and have a more pronounced crunch. They are also typically thinner than coconut flakes. The unsweetened nature distinguishes them from sweetened versions, which have a much higher sugar content and a softer texture due to the added syrup.
Who it is for
Home cooks looking to add a tropical flavor and interesting texture to their meals will find these useful.
How to keep the rest
To maintain their crispness, store any remaining coconut chips in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. Avoid exposure to moisture, which can cause them to become soft and lose their desirable texture. Proper storage ensures they remain fresh and enjoyable for future use.
