La Banderita
La Banderita Super Burrito Tortillas
What it is
These are large, soft flour tortillas designed for making substantial burritos. They are typically made from enriched wheat flour, water, and a small amount of fat and leavening. Their size and flexibility make them ideal for wrapping around generous fillings without tearing. They offer a mild, slightly chewy texture that complements a variety of savory ingredients. The tortillas are pre-cooked and ready to be warmed.
How people cook with it
These large tortillas are perfect for creating hearty meals. They can be filled and rolled for a complete dish.
- Wrap large burritos
- Make quesadillas
- Create enchiladas
- Use as a base for wraps
To best enjoy these tortillas, warm them before filling and rolling. You can heat them briefly in a dry skillet over medium heat until they become pliable and slightly puffed. Alternatively, microwave them wrapped in a damp paper towel for about 20-30 seconds. Once warm, lay a tortilla flat, add your desired fillings in the center, fold in the sides, and then roll tightly from the bottom up to create a secure burrito. They are also excellent for making large, folded quesadillas or for layering and baking into enchiladas.
How it differs from similar foods
Compared to smaller taco-sized tortillas, these super burrito tortillas are significantly larger in diameter. This increased size allows for more generous portions of fillings. Their texture is generally softer and more pliable than corn tortillas, making them easier to roll without cracking, especially when warmed.
Who it is for
Home cooks preparing family-sized meals or individuals looking for a substantial base for their wraps will find these tortillas useful.
How to keep the rest
After opening the package, store any unused tortillas in a sealed plastic bag or an airtight container at room temperature for a few days. For longer storage, they can be refrigerated or frozen. If frozen, thaw them at room temperature before warming and using.
