Weis Quality Summer Fruit Blend
What it is
This is a frozen mixture of various fruits, typically including berries like strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries, along with other fruits such as peaches or cherries. The fruits are individually quick-frozen at their peak ripeness to preserve their flavor and texture. This blend is designed to offer a convenient way to enjoy a variety of fruits year-round, without the need for washing, peeling, or chopping.
How people cook with it
Frozen fruit blends are incredibly versatile in the kitchen. They can be used in both sweet and savory dishes, adding vibrant color and natural sweetness.
- Smoothies and shakes
- Fruit pies and crumbles
- Sauces and compotes
- Yogurt and oatmeal toppings
To use the Summer Fruit Blend, you can often use it directly from the freezer, especially for smoothies or sauces where the frozen texture is beneficial. For baking, such as pies or crumbles, it's usually best to let the fruit thaw slightly to release some of its juices, which can then be incorporated into the filling. You can also gently heat the blend with a little sugar or lemon juice to create a quick dessert topping or a base for other culinary creations. The natural sugars in the fruit will intensify as they cook.
How it differs from similar foods
Unlike fresh fruit, this frozen blend offers convenience and extended shelf life. The freezing process helps maintain the fruit's cellular structure, though some texture change may occur upon thawing compared to freshly picked produce. It provides a consistent flavor profile throughout the year.
Who it is for
Home cooks and bakers who want easy access to a variety of fruits for everyday meals and special occasions.
How to keep the rest
After opening, reseal the bag tightly and store it in the freezer. Keeping it well-sealed helps prevent freezer burn and maintains the quality of the fruit. It is best to use the contents within a reasonable time frame after purchase for optimal flavor.
