Sicilian Style Hot Pepper Spread
What it is
This is a vibrant and flavorful spread made from roasted red peppers, chili peppers, and a blend of aromatic herbs and spices. It offers a delightful balance of sweetness from the peppers and a pleasant warmth from the chilies. The texture is typically smooth with some small pieces of pepper visible, making it versatile for various culinary applications. It is ready to use straight from the jar, bringing a burst of Mediterranean flavor to any dish.
How people cook with it
This spread is an excellent way to add a punch of flavor and a touch of heat to your meals. It can be used as a condiment, a dip, or an ingredient in cooking.
- Spread on sandwiches and wraps
- Serve with cheese and crackers
- Stir into pasta sauces
- Use as a marinade for meats
Open the jar and use a spoon to spread it onto your chosen food. For sandwiches, it can replace mayonnaise or mustard, adding a spicy kick. When serving as a dip, pair it with crusty bread, pita chips, or fresh vegetables. To incorporate it into cooking, stir a spoonful or two into simmering tomato sauces for pasta or stews to deepen their flavor profile. It also works wonderfully as a base for salad dressings or as a glaze for grilled chicken or fish.
How it differs from similar foods
Compared to a simple chili paste, this spread offers a more complex flavor profile with the sweetness of roasted peppers. It is generally less intensely hot than pure chili pastes, making it more approachable for those who prefer a milder spice level. The addition of herbs also distinguishes it from plain pepper purees.
Who it is for
