Tesco Reduced Salt Soy Sauce 150ml
What it is
This is a soy sauce product from Tesco that has been formulated to contain less salt than standard soy sauce. It is a liquid condiment typically made from fermented soybeans, wheat, salt, and water. The reduced salt content aims to offer a lighter alternative for those looking to manage their sodium intake without completely sacrificing the distinct umami flavor associated with soy sauce. It comes in a 150ml bottle, suitable for regular kitchen use.
How people cook with it
This soy sauce is a versatile ingredient used to add depth of flavor to a wide range of dishes. It can be used in marinades, stir-fries, dipping sauces, and as a seasoning.
- Marinades for meats and tofu
- Stir-fry sauces
- Dipping sauce base
- Seasoning for rice and noodles
To use, simply pour the desired amount into your cooking. It can be added during the cooking process for stir-fries, stews, and braises to build flavor. For marinades, combine it with other ingredients like garlic, ginger, or honey and let your ingredients soak for at least 30 minutes. It also works well as a finishing sauce or a component in salad dressings. The reduced salt means you might need to adjust other salty ingredients in your recipe.
How it differs from similar foods
Compared to regular soy sauce, this version has a noticeably lower sodium content. While it retains the characteristic savory, umami taste, the saltiness is less pronounced. This makes it a good option for those monitoring their salt consumption or for dishes where a milder soy flavor is preferred.
Who it is for
Home cooks seeking to reduce their salt intake while still enjoying the flavor of soy sauce.
