Idahoan Premium Steakhouse Potato Soup Mix

What it is

This is a dehydrated soup mix designed to create a rich and creamy potato soup. It contains dried potato flakes, seasonings, and other ingredients that rehydrate when hot water is added. The 'steakhouse' descriptor suggests a hearty, flavorful profile, often associated with restaurant-style soups that have a thicker texture and savory notes. It is intended for quick preparation in a home kitchen.

How people cook with it

This soup mix is a convenient option for a quick meal or side dish. It can be enjoyed on its own or as a base for added ingredients.

• Quick lunch option
• Comforting side dish
• Base for added vegetables
• Warm appetizer

To prepare, you typically need to boil water and then whisk in the contents of the soup mix packet. Stirring is important to ensure the powder dissolves properly and the soup thickens without clumping. It is usually simmered for a few minutes until it reaches your desired consistency. Some people prefer to add a splash of milk or cream for extra richness, or stir in cooked bacon bits, cheese, or chives for added flavor and texture. Adjusting the amount of water can also alter the thickness.

How it differs from similar foods

Compared to homemade potato soup, this mix offers significant convenience and speed. It differs from simpler potato flakes by including a blend of seasonings and thickeners that aim to replicate a more complex, restaurant-quality flavor and texture. The specific blend of spices contributes to its 'steakhouse' character.

Who it is for

Anyone looking for a fast and satisfying potato soup can prepare this mix.

How to keep the rest

Store the unopened soup mix packet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Once opened, it is best to seal any unused portion tightly in an airtight container or bag to maintain freshness and prevent clumping from humidity. Proper storage ensures the best flavor and texture for future use.
