Buck Wild Popcorn Kernels
What it is
This is a package of whole popcorn kernels. These are the seeds that, when heated, expand and pop to create the familiar snack. The kernels are typically small and dense before they are popped. They are a simple, unprocessed food item. This particular product comes in a small, single-serving size bag, ideal for a quick snack or for trying out a new popcorn brand. The kernels are dry and ready for preparation.
How people cook with it
Popcorn kernels are most commonly prepared by heating them until they pop. This can be done using various methods, from stovetop to microwave.
- Stovetop popcorn
- Air-popped popcorn
- Microwave popcorn
- Snack preparation
To prepare popcorn on the stovetop, you will need a pot with a lid. Add a small amount of oil to the bottom of the pot and heat it over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add a single layer of kernels. Cover the pot and shake it gently as the kernels begin to pop. Continue shaking until the popping slows down to several seconds between pops. Remove from heat and season as desired. For air-popping, follow the instructions for your air popper appliance. Microwave popcorn bags are designed for direct use in a microwave oven.
How it differs from similar foods
Unlike pre-packaged microwave popcorn bags which often contain added oils, butter flavorings, and salt, these are plain kernels. This allows for complete control over the ingredients used in preparation. You can choose your preferred oil and seasonings, making it a more customizable option compared to convenience popcorn products.
Who it is for

How to keep the rest
Store any unused kernels in a cool, dry place in an airtight container. Keeping them away from moisture and direct sunlight will help maintain their freshness and popping ability. Properly stored kernels can last for a considerable amount of time.
