This is a block of organic tofu that has been pressed to remove a significant amount of water. This process results in a very dense and firm texture, making it ideal for cooking methods that require the tofu to hold its shape. It is made from soybeans and water, with a minimal amount of coagulant to set the curds. The organic certification means the soybeans were grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.
Super firm tofu is a versatile ingredient that can be prepared in many ways. Its dense texture makes it a good substitute for meat in various dishes.
Before cooking, it is often beneficial to press the tofu further to remove even more moisture, which helps it achieve a crispier exterior. You can do this by wrapping it in paper towels and placing a heavy object on top for at least 30 minutes. Once pressed, it can be cut into cubes, slices, or crumbles. It readily absorbs marinades, so consider soaking it for a while before cooking. Pan-frying, baking, or grilling are popular methods to achieve a satisfying texture.
Compared to silken or soft tofu, super firm tofu contains much less water. This makes it significantly denser and less likely to break apart during cooking. It holds its shape better when fried or baked, offering a more substantial bite.
After opening, store any unused portion of the tofu submerged in water in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Change the water daily to keep it fresh. It is best to consume the remaining tofu within 3 to 5 days.
