Nielsen-Massey
Nielsen-Massey Organic Pure Orange Extract
What it is
This is a concentrated flavoring made from the oils of organic oranges. It captures the bright, citrusy essence of fresh oranges in a liquid form. The extract is carefully crafted to provide a consistent and potent orange taste. It is a pantry staple for bakers and cooks seeking to infuse their dishes with authentic orange flavor without adding liquid or pulp. The organic certification ensures the oranges used are grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.
How people cook with it
Orange extract is a versatile ingredient that adds a burst of citrus to both sweet and savory creations. It is particularly useful when a strong orange flavor is desired without altering the texture of a dish.
- Enhancing baked goods
- Flavoring beverages
- Brightening sauces
- Adding zest to marinades
A little of this potent extract goes a long way. Begin by adding a small amount, such as a quarter or half teaspoon, to your recipe. Stir it in thoroughly and taste the mixture. You can then gradually add more extract until the desired orange flavor is achieved. It is often incorporated into batters, doughs, frostings, and glazes. It can also be whisked into salad dressings, marinades for meats or seafood, and even used to add complexity to dessert sauces or simple syrup for cocktails.
How it differs from similar foods
Unlike fresh orange zest, which can vary in intensity and adds small solid particles, this extract provides a smooth, uniform, and concentrated orange flavor. It offers a more stable and predictable citrus profile in recipes where a pure, unadulterated orange essence is paramount.
Who it is for
Home bakers and professional chefs alike use this extract to impart a distinct orange note into their culinary creations.
How to keep the rest
To maintain its potency and flavor, store the bottle in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Ensure the cap is tightly sealed after each use. Properly stored, the extract will retain its quality for an extended period.
