Tacoma Tofu
Tacoma Tofu Momen (Regular) is a firm block of tofu made from soybeans. It has a dense texture and holds its shape well when cooked. This type of tofu is a versatile ingredient, often used as a plant-based alternative to meat in various dishes. Its neutral flavor makes it a good base for absorbing marinades and spices.
This tofu is suitable for a wide range of cooking methods. It can be prepared in many ways to suit different culinary preferences.
Before cooking, it is often beneficial to press the tofu to remove excess water. This can be done using a tofu press or by wrapping it in paper towels and placing a heavy object on top. Once pressed, it can be cut into desired shapes, such as cubes or slices. For a crispy exterior, coat the pieces in cornstarch or flour before pan-frying or baking. It readily absorbs marinades, so consider soaking it for at least 30 minutes before cooking to infuse it with flavor.
Momen tofu is firmer and more dense than silken or soft tofu varieties. This difference in texture means it is less likely to crumble during cooking, making it ideal for dishes where the tofu needs to maintain its form, such as stir-fries or grilled applications.
After opening the package, store any unused tofu in an airtight container submerged in water in the refrigerator. Change the water daily to keep it fresh. It is best used within a few days of opening.
