Lemon Pepper Seasoning Blend
What it is
This is a dry seasoning blend that combines the bright, zesty flavor of lemon with the pungent, slightly spicy notes of black pepper. It is typically made from dried lemon peel, ground black pepper, and often includes other complementary spices like salt, garlic powder, or onion powder to enhance its overall taste profile. The combination creates a versatile seasoning that can elevate a wide range of dishes.
How people cook with it
This seasoning is a convenient way to add a burst of flavor to your cooking. It works well as a rub, a finishing sprinkle, or an ingredient in marinades and sauces.
- Sprinkle on grilled chicken
- Season roasted vegetables
- Add to fish dishes
- Flavor salad dressings
You can use this seasoning blend in many ways. For a simple application, sprinkle it directly onto foods before or after cooking. It is excellent as a rub for meats like chicken, pork, or fish, allowing the flavors to penetrate during cooking. For marinades, whisk it with oil, vinegar, or citrus juice to create a flavorful coating. It can also be stirred into sauces, gravies, or even incorporated into breading for fried foods. A light dusting can finish off cooked dishes, adding a final layer of bright, peppery taste.
How it differs from similar foods
Compared to using plain lemon zest and pepper separately, this blend offers a pre-mixed convenience. The dried lemon peel provides a concentrated citrus aroma and flavor that differs from fresh zest. The specific ratio of lemon to pepper can also vary between brands, offering slightly different flavor balances.

How to keep the rest
To maintain its freshness and potency, store the seasoning in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Ensure the container is tightly sealed after each use to prevent moisture from entering, which can cause clumping and diminish the flavor over time.
