These are large, uncooked shrimp, individually frozen for convenience. They are sourced from the sea and come ready for preparation. The raw state allows for maximum flavor absorption during cooking. Their size makes them a substantial addition to many dishes.
Raw shrimp can be cooked in many ways. They are excellent for quick meals or as a component in more elaborate recipes.
To use, thaw the shrimp completely before cooking. This can be done by placing them in the refrigerator overnight or by submerging the sealed bag in cold water for about 30 minutes. Once thawed, pat them dry with paper towels. This helps them sear better. Then, cook them using your preferred method, such as pan-frying, boiling, or baking. Be careful not to overcook, as they can become tough quickly. They are typically done when they turn pink and opaque.
Compared to pre-cooked shrimp, raw shrimp offer a fresher taste and a firmer texture when cooked at home. They also absorb marinades and seasonings more effectively, allowing for deeper flavor infusion. Their raw state provides greater control over the final cooking and seasoning.
Keep any unused, thawed shrimp refrigerated and cook them within one to two days. If the shrimp are still frozen, store them in the freezer at 0°F (-18°C) or below. Ensure the original packaging is sealed tightly to prevent freezer burn.
