Tacoma Tofu
This is a package of soft tofu, also known as silken tofu. It has a very smooth and delicate texture. The soybeans are finely ground, and the water content is high, resulting in a custard-like consistency. This tofu is made from soybeans and water.
Soft tofu is often used in dishes where its delicate texture can shine. It is a popular ingredient in many Asian cuisines.
To use soft tofu, handle it gently as it can break apart easily. It is often served chilled or warmed. You can gently scoop it from its container and add it to soups or stews towards the end of cooking. It can also be blended into creamy dressings, dips, or even sweet desserts like puddings. For a simple preparation, it can be served with a drizzle of soy sauce and some chopped scallions.
Kinugoshi, or soft tofu, is much more delicate and has a higher water content than firm or extra-firm tofu. This makes it less suitable for frying or grilling, as it will not hold its shape as well. Its smooth texture is ideal for dishes where a creamy consistency is desired.
Home cooks and chefs who enjoy preparing delicate and flavorful plant-based meals will find this tofu useful.
After opening, store any unused soft tofu in an airtight container submerged in water in the refrigerator. Change the water daily to keep it fresh. It is best to consume the remaining tofu within two to three days of opening the package.
