Sainsbury's Fragrant Tikka Curry Paste
What it is
This is a pre-made paste designed to bring the authentic flavors of tikka curry to your home cooking. It is a blend of aromatic spices, herbs, and often includes tomatoes and onions, creating a rich and complex base for a variety of dishes. The paste is concentrated, meaning a little goes a long way to infuse your meals with deep flavor. It is ready to use, saving you time and effort in preparing individual spices.
How people cook with it
This paste is a versatile ingredient for creating quick and flavorful Indian-inspired meals. It is perfect for both weeknight dinners and more elaborate preparations.
- Marinating chicken or paneer
- Simmering with coconut milk for a creamy sauce
- Adding depth to vegetable stir-fries
- Flavoring rice or lentil dishes
To use, simply sauté the paste in a little oil until fragrant, which typically takes about one to two minutes. This step helps to bloom the spices and release their full aroma. Then, add your main ingredients, such as chicken, vegetables, or legumes, and cook them through. You can then add liquids like water, stock, or coconut milk to create your desired sauce consistency. Allow the mixture to simmer gently until everything is cooked and the flavors have melded together, creating a delicious and satisfying meal.
How it differs from similar foods
Compared to other curry pastes, this tikka version often has a slightly milder heat profile and a more pronounced tomato and creamy undertone. Its specific spice blend aims for the characteristic taste of a restaurant-style tikka masala, balancing warmth with a touch of tanginess.
