Western Family Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 15 ml
What it is
This is a small, single-serving bottle of extra virgin olive oil. Extra virgin olive oil is the highest grade of olive oil. It is made from the first pressing of olives and is unrefined. This means it retains more of its natural flavor, aroma, and color. The oil is typically green or golden in color and has a fruity, sometimes peppery taste. This small size is convenient for single uses or for travel.
How people cook with it
Extra virgin olive oil is a versatile ingredient used in many culinary applications. It can be used both for cooking and as a finishing oil.
- Drizzling over salads
- Dipping bread
- Sautéing vegetables
- Finishing cooked dishes
This oil is excellent for salad dressings, where its fresh flavor can shine. It can also be used for light sautéing of vegetables or fish, adding a subtle richness to the dish. For a simple appetizer, it is perfect for dipping crusty bread. When finishing cooked pasta, grilled meats, or roasted vegetables, a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil adds a final layer of flavor and a pleasing sheen. Its delicate taste makes it ideal for dishes where you want the olive oil's quality to be noticeable.
How it differs from similar foods
Extra virgin olive oil differs from other olive oils due to its lower acidity and more robust flavor profile. It is less processed than virgin olive oil or regular olive oil, which contributes to its distinct fruity and sometimes pungent notes. This makes it a preferred choice for raw applications and delicate cooking.
Who it is for
Home cooks and professional chefs alike appreciate extra virgin olive oil for its quality and flavor.
How to keep the rest
To maintain its freshness, store the unopened bottle in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. Once opened, it is best to use the oil within a few weeks to enjoy its peak flavor. Keep the cap tightly sealed to prevent oxidation.
