Fleer Corporation Evaporated Milk, 30 ml
What it is
This is a can of evaporated milk from Fleer Corporation. Evaporated milk is dairy milk that has had about 60% of its water removed through heating. This process concentrates the milk solids and sugars, giving it a richer flavor and thicker consistency compared to regular milk. It is shelf-stable and does not require refrigeration until it is opened. The small 30 ml size is convenient for single servings or specific recipe needs.
How people cook with it
Evaporated milk is a versatile ingredient used in both sweet and savory dishes. Its concentrated nature adds depth and creaminess to recipes.
- Creamy sauces
- Dessert bases
- Baked goods
- Beverage enhancers
To use evaporated milk, you can typically add it directly to your recipes. For many applications, it can be used as a substitute for regular milk, but it will result in a richer, thicker final product. If you need to reconstitute it to the consistency of regular milk, you can mix one part evaporated milk with one part water. It blends well into custards, puddings, and pie fillings, providing a smooth texture. It also enriches gravies and soups, adding a luxurious mouthfeel without the need for heavy cream.
How it differs from similar foods
Unlike regular milk, evaporated milk has a longer shelf life due to the removal of water and the canning process. It is also thicker and has a more concentrated, slightly caramelized flavor profile. Sweetened condensed milk, another shelf-stable dairy product, differs significantly as it contains added sugar, making it unsuitable for savory dishes.
Who it is for
Home cooks and bakers often keep evaporated milk on hand for its unique properties in various culinary creations.
How to keep the rest
Store unopened cans of evaporated milk in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Once opened, transfer any unused milk to a sealed container and refrigerate. It should be used within a few days of opening.
