LAWRY'S
Lawry's Crispy Chicken Seasoned Coating Mix
What it is
This is a seasoned flour-based coating mix designed to give fried chicken a crispy texture and savory flavor. It contains a blend of spices and herbs that enhance the taste of chicken. The mix is pre-seasoned, so no additional salt or pepper is typically needed. It is intended for home cooks looking for a convenient way to prepare flavorful fried chicken.
How people cook with it
This seasoned coating mix is primarily used to prepare fried chicken. It can also be used to coat other types of meat or vegetables for frying.
- Coating chicken pieces for frying
- Seasoning fish before frying
- Coating vegetables for a crispy texture
- Adding flavor to baked chicken
To use, typically you would prepare your chicken pieces by patting them dry. Then, you would dredge each piece thoroughly in the seasoned coating mix, ensuring it is fully covered. For best results, some cooks recommend dipping the coated chicken in water or milk before a second coating of the mix to create an extra-thick crust. The coated chicken is then ready to be fried in hot oil until golden brown and cooked through. The mix provides a convenient way to achieve a restaurant-style crispy coating at home.
How it differs from similar foods
This mix differs from plain flour by providing a pre-blended combination of spices and seasonings. Unlike some other coatings, it is specifically formulated for chicken, aiming for a balance of savory notes and a crisp texture when fried. The seasoning profile is distinct and designed to complement the natural flavor of chicken without overpowering it.
Who it is for
Home cooks who want to easily prepare crispy and flavorful fried chicken.
How to keep the rest
After opening, store the remaining coating mix in a cool, dry place in an airtight container. This will help maintain its freshness and prevent clumping. Ensure the container is sealed tightly to keep out moisture and air, which can affect the texture and flavor of the mix over time.
